Temporary Odor and Activity Expected During Essential Work
LAKE ELSINORE, CA – Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District (EVMWD) will test new equipment at Railroad Canyon Dam on Monday, Jan. 27. The work will involve opening and closing valves several times throughout the day, which may cause a temporary rotten egg odor in Canyon Lake and possibly Canyon Hills.
This odor, caused by natural materials in the lake, is not harmful and typically disappears quickly. Wind conditions may affect how far the odor travels and how long it lasts.
Residents may notice minor changes in lake levels, some noise from the equipment, and increased truck activity near the dam during testing. EVMWD plans to complete another test in a few weeks after upgrading additional equipment. Updates will be shared with the community before that work begins.
This testing helps ensure the dam operates safely and reliably. EVMWD thanks the community for its understanding and patience during the essential work.
