Lake Elsinore, CA - Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District honored area students at the regular Board of Directors meeting on May 26. Nine poster winners from grades 4 and 5 from six local elementary schools were awarded trophies, plaques and ribbons. Poster winners included:
· Grand Prize for grade four was David Torres from Wildomar School
· Grand Prize for grade five was Garrett Gauf from William Collier School
· First Place winners were Alexia Hernandez from Earl Warren School and Natalie Link from Railroad Canyon School
· Second Place winners were Julya Garcia from Railroad Canyon, Tristan Navarette (tie) from Earl Warren School and Carla Uriostigui (tie) from Withrow School
· Third Place winners were Kolleen Russo from Withrow School and Yvette Ledezma from Elsinore Elementary School
Eight students were honored for water-related science fair projects:
· Grand Prize winner Ryan Ringer, fifth grade student at Luiseno School won for "Which Types of Water Causes Erosion"
· Grand Prize winner Jacob Dodd (also won in 2008), seventh grade student at Elsinore Middle School won with "The Colors of Conservation"
· First Place winners were Taylor Jolly from Railroad Canyon School and Rachelle Smith from Lakeland Village Middle School
· Second Place winners were Christian Baello from Cottonwood School and Kabir Torres from Elsinore Middle School
· Third Place winners were Austin Hawkins from Luiseno School and John Dixon from Lakeland Village Middle School
All winners and their families were treated to a reception before the meeting and all students received water bottles, food coupons, pencils and stickers.
For over 25 years Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District has been supplying water education programs, tours, contests and resources to schools throughout the area. The free materials and programs adhere to the California State Education Standards and many focus on conservation. Teaching students to save water will ensure that future generations have a stable, reliable water supply. Teachers can order conservation materials at www.evmwd.com/education.
